Denby Dale, Melbourne
The Denby Dale apartments were designed by renowned interwar architect Robert Hamilton, and are a rare example of the Arts and Crafts style in Melbourne.
In the early days of the garden, six Monterey Cypress trees were planted around the central sandstone pond, but over time these had outgrown the space, damaging the heritage brick walling and pond, and developing age-related structural defects that made them unsafe. Andrea Proctor and Andrew Laidlaw worked with the owners corporation to develop a design for the rejuvenated garden, restoring the pond, installing garden beds and replacing the cypress with Illawarra Flame Trees, selected in consultation with the owners. The garden was constructed by Vivid Landscapes and completed in October 2020. |
