Horticulture and Planting Design
Horticulture and planting design are an integral part of our practice, and we are passionate about the difference good, diverse planting design can make to any landscape. One of the joys of our work is that we design not only landscapes, but also gardens. Our landscapes and gardens are built around a strong understanding of plants and their maintenance and growing requirements. We look to create landscapes which are beautiful, diverse and resilient. With a background in horticulture and experience working in botanic gardens across Victoria we have a strong planting palette to draw on in our designs. This allows us to tailor our planting design to the space - from non-irrigation roundabouts and median strips maintained twice a year, through to fully curated botanic and residential gardens.
Good planting design is reliant on good horticultural knowledge and sound professional practice. To direct this, we can also assist with strategic horticultural projects such as Horticultural Master Plans, Tree Strategies and Living Collections management. These are the types of documents which guide the horticultural direction of a landscape or municipality as a whole. We are especially passionate about living collections management and developing a strategic approach to the management of botanic garden’s plant collections. It is these curated collections which differentiate a botanic garden different to a public park, and we enjoy working with botanic gardens to determine the focus for their collections, one which supports both the individual garden, and the wider botanic gardens' network in their conservation and horticultural aims.
