Melbourne Gardens Master Plan 2020 - 2040, Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria
|
Established in 1846 under the Directorship of botanist Ferdinand Mueller and designed by Director William Guilfoyle between 1873 and 1909, the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria’s Melbourne Gardens were planned as a single Garden, displaying and nurturing a collection of over 8,000 species of plants from across the globe. Since 1997 the management of the site has been directed by a Master Plan, with Andrea Proctor being engaged by the RBGV to assist Andrew Laidlaw and Executive Director, Chris Cole to produce the Melbourne Gardens Master Plan 2020-2040.
The new Master Plan responds to the latest opportunities and challenges facing the Gardens, including the need for a new building to house the National Herbarium of Victoria, the new Anzac Station, the Domain Parklands Master Plan, the impact of climate change on the plant collections and a growing recognition of the importance of green space within the city. The new plan, developed with staff, stakeholders and the community will guide its management for the next 20 years. |
