Patterson Park, Metung

Patterson Park in the centre of Metung is the primary open space in this close-knit lakeside community. Land for the park was bequeathed by local resident Meg Patterson, and for may years was a simple grassed open space with picnic tables and basic play equipment.

Driven by local residents, the redevelopment of this site included a new, all abilities and all-ages play space, a central water play area, turf mounds and a large central deck, which provides picnic facilities, a stage for community events and acts as a general gathering and meeting place.

The design was developed in strong consultation with the local community and captures Metung’s unique sense of place. It draws on the town’s lakeside location, natural environment, demographics and how local residents use the park. The completed landscape has become a much-loved part of the community.
