Heritage Landscapes
Understanding a place is an integral part of our work, and especially important when dealing with heritage sites. Our staff have provided heritage guidance on some of Australia's most iconic landscapes including the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne Observatory, Ballarat Botanical Gardens, Albury Botanic Gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney and Carlton Gardens (Australia's only World Heritage Listed garden). This has led to an understanding of the practical realities of heritage sites, and how to apply good heritage practice to protect and maintain them in all their joy and complexity. This is especially relevant when dealing with living heritage - whether that be plants with a finite life span or dynamic heritage such as social, aesthetic and scientific importance. A particular focus of our work is as heritage horticulturists providing guidance on tree replacement, landscape succession planning, and the intricacies of working with living scientific and social institutions. We work with clients and allied consultants to handle heritage permits, guide events, restore gardens, complete Conservation Assessments and Conservation Management Plans, plan succession planting or design new features which sit sensitively within heritage landscapes.
